Chania (Souda) International Airport "Ioannis Daskalogiannis" is located about 14km to the east of Chania (Khania or Hania) on the peninsula which partially surrounds Souda Bay in Crete, Greece. The airport has 240 short term parking spaces and 100 long term spaces. Taxis and car hire is readily available at the airport. A bus stop is situated just outside the airport and provides a service to Chania. The Intercity Bus Station in Chania provides a transport service to other parts of the island. Facilities at the airport include ATMs, cafeterias and snack bars. There are a number of shops including a duty free shop and a medical centre.
Chania is the second largest town in Crete and has daily sea connection with Piraeus via ferry boats. The Public Market, which was built in 1911, is an imposing building and the Public Gardens next to the Market are an ideal place to relax. The old city still retains the atmosphere and charm of the Venetian and Turkish periods. There are many traditional and picturesque villages and Therissos is thought to be one of the most beautiful and unspoiled villages of Crete. The old port, narrow shopping streets and waterfront restaurants are a popular place to stroll around.
