Holiday in the Portugal - Luxury Villa in The Algarve

After arriving back from Holiday in the Algarve Portugal for the first time I thought I’d share my experience with our blog readers. I travelled with a group of 18 friends, flying into Faro Airport with Easy Jet which was all very straight forward. Travelling from Bristol, the flight was only 2 hours so was perfect as had such a large group including Babies and Children!

We took advantage of the plentiful Car Hire Faro Airport for the 30 minute dirve to Villa Colina Rio in Carvoeiro.  Carvoerio is a little village in the Algarve also known as Ferragudo. The village was very peaceful, surrounded by many beautiful villas, Villa Colina was air conditioned which was needed as the weather was in the late 20’s.  Benefiting from a private garden and a pool with a beach view, it slept up to 20, 12 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms- it really was luxurious.

Within a 10 minuite walk was a lovely little village square which was filled with restaurants and Bars which was extremely handy for watching all the World Cup games that were on whilst we were there. It was a friendly village with some Portuguese owners and some English so as you can imagine with the football on everyone was in good spirits. The locals claim that Jose Mourinio had been brought up very close by our villa and his parents still lived there, which pleased many of the football fans I had travelled with.

Carvoeiro is a little fishing village, so fish restaurant are plentiful along with all many other cuisines. Many of the restaurants and Bars are located in the Marina of Portimao.  Portimao is the centre where we went for most meals and days out, it was full of shops where we bought many pretty souvenoirs and presents to bring home. There are loads of scrumptious places to dine including Italians, steakhouses, and even a local Indian. Many of the Bars were located on the side of the Marina so we had a gorgeous view of the sea along with many stunning Boats. There is a large beach located in Portimao centre, we all commented on how gorgeous it looked, beautiful white sand and a very clear blue sea.  Many water rides including a banana boat and Jet skis are available from the beach, which we tried out and really enjoyed. The Children all enjoyed the beach, many local shops sold all the accessories a child needs for the beach so with a bucket and spade in hand the children had hours of fun!

One evening we ventured out to Portimao to take in the local bars, typically karaoke and much dancing was involved. At the end of the evening there were plenty of takeways to choose from that all stayed open until the early hours picking up trade when the bars close. A taxi stand was located right in the centre so was very easy to get back to our villa. I would say the nightlife here is more for a couples and family holiday which we were on so was great. We were told by many locals for young groups wanting lots of Clubs the main place to go was Albuferia, this was said to be the new Magaluf!  Albuferia was a 30 minuite taxi ride away.

On our last day we visited a nearby Waterpark in Lagoa (a 15 minuite drive away) it was called Slide and Splash this is known to be one of the best waterparks in Europe! The Children loved it, it had loads of rides that were suitable, yet extremely heart dropping rides for the Adults that were brave enough to try! It cost 16 Euros upon entry and i would say it was worth every penny. We stayed there the whole day, there was a large foodhall which served hot and cold meals along with lots of snack bars

Overall my experience of Carvoeiro was Brilliant and I would definatley recommend if a peaceful holiday is what you are looking for. However, most accommodation in Carvoeiro are villas which are great for group bookings. If you prefer to be in the centre with everything on your doorstep and preferably a Hotel/apartment I would advise Portimao central.
