A Guide to Rome in Italy

Always considered one of the world's foremost cities, Rome found more fame during the 1960s due to Federico Fellini's masterpiece La Dolce Vita, a film about the search of a passive journalist for happiness.

The Eternal City was founded by the Romans on seven hills and old Rome is still an incredibly rewarding place to visit. At the centre of the Navona Piazza you will see the Fountain of Neptune and this is a good place to start any trip. From there you will find an endlessly beautiful selection of piazzas and palazzos, including the magnificent Piazza Pantheon. This was built by Emperor Hadrian as far back as 27 BCE. The Pantheon dome is the third largest dome built out of masonry in the world.

Vatican City is another unique part of Rome. This papal state is the world's smallest state and serves as the physical centre of Catholicism. Walking through the Vatican is an unforgettable experience.
Shoppers and those looking for nightlife will want to head to the modern centre of Rome which is concentrated around the Termini station.

The Trevi Fountain is the most eye-catching landmark here while the Via Veneto has lots of outdoor cafes and amazing architecture.

Rome at Night

Today Rome is a lot of bustle and a bit of hustle. Watch out for taxi drivers trying to overcharge you and high prices everywhere you go. Car hire in Italy is one good way to save money though you need nerves of steel at certain times of day.

Will
For me its the renaissance architecture that impresses the most. The sheer amount of history packed into a single city however is insane.
