Korat Airport Guide

Nakhon Ratchasima Airport replaced Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base as the passenger access to Nakhon Ratchasima. Until the 1990s travellers had to share the airport with the air force but now there’s a single daily flight from Bangkok with Thai Regional Airlines. Travellers from elsewhere in Thailand or abroad will first have to fly to Bangkok before making a connection.

Nakhon Ratchasima is a big commercial city also known by the name Khorat and is a good stopping off point from Bangkok for travellers looking to explore the countryside outside the capital. That said there are plenty of shrines and temples to keep you occupied including the Maha Weerawong Museum which contains many of the holiest and most valuable artefacts from the temples. The Wat Phra Narai Maharat is probably the most famous temple and shrine in the city and is set in parkland with a lake. In the waters beneath the bridges lurk water monitor lizards the size of crocodiles but almost harmless.
