Birmingham Airport (Birmingham International Airport, West Midlands)is an international airport located 10.2 km east-southeast of city centre, and in 2007 it was the sixth busiest airport in the UK. In 2009, 9,627,589 passengers were served here.

Terminals

Hiring a vehicle from Car Hire Birmingham Airport will be a simple affair, despite the three terminals and the complex layout of the airport. For car hires, you would exit the baggage claim area and find the desks located in T1 terminal, just opposite the Drop and Go parking area on Trident Road.

Travel Routes

Birmingham Airport Information


Birmingham International Airport (BHX) is situated in the Midlands and is approx. 13km from the city centre of Birmingham.  It is in the centre of England and is also the centre of the UK’s motorway network.   It is home to scheduled and chartered services to domestic and international destinations.  The airport has two terminals and in excess of 40 airlines operate from this base.

If travelling by car from Birmingham to the airport take the A45 east towards Coventry.   If travelling from the north or south of England come off at junction 6 of the M42 and take the A45 towards the city centre.  The airport turnoff is only just over 1km and is well signposted   If travelling by rail it is a 10-15 journey from Birmingham New Street station, which is located in the centre of the city, to the airport.  

Birmingham International Airport railway station is directly linked to the airport passenger terminals by SkyRail.   This service is free and operates approx. every 2 minutes when the rail station is open.  The journey takes less than 2 minutes. 6-7 trains operate from Birmingham New Street station each hour during the day but less frequently in the evenings and at the weekends.  No trains operate during the night.

The station is situated on the West Coast Main Line.  There are fast and frequent connections from here to destinations all around England.  Virgin offers a direct half-hourly service to London Euston.  The journey takes about 90 minutes.  National Express operates long distance coach services which connect to the airport from a range of the foremost cities of the UK.  An inter-airport service is also provided by Flightlink coaches.
 
All coaches go through Digbeth Coach Station which is situated in the centre of Birmingham.  It is possible to connect with services to most parts of the UK from this coach station.  Local buses have stops outside of the passenger terminals and the 900 Airport Link provides a service to the city centre every 20 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes during the evenings and Saturdays.

The airport has good facilities including meeting rooms, business booths and executive lounges for the business traveller, easy access for disabled travellers and wheel chair availability together with children’s needs.  There is a range of restaurants, cafes, coffee houses, bars, pubs and fast food outlets.  Duty free shopping, fashion and accessories, bookstalls and pharmacies are also to be found at the terminals.

There are several car parks – short stay suitable for up to two hours, multi storey car parks which are ideal for stays of up to one week and long stay car parks for stays over one week.  A courtesy bus service connects the long stay car parks with bus stops B and E outside of the passenger terminals.  The buses operate throughout the day and night 7 days a week and run approx. every 12 minutes. 

Valet parking is also available. The Novotel hotel is situated on the airport complex and a number of hotels are also to be found close to the airport.  Cheap car hire and taxis are readily available at the airport. Local attractions include Cadbury World, Birmingham Hippodrome, Birmingham Botanical Gardens and Warwick Castle.
