Car Hire Vaxjo Airport

Vaxjo is a pretty inland town in the south of Sweden and easily reached from Gothenburg and Stockholm. It’s surrounded by lakes, perfect for heading out in your hire car with a smorgasbord in the boot and a blanket or two. You may decide you don’t necessarily want a basic hire car from Vaxjo Airport but would like something a little more comfortable or special. The cost may put some people off but one look at our prices and you’ll see that the price of renting a higher specification car is what you might have expected for a smaller basic model.

Vaxjo Airport Guide

Vaxjo Airport is properly called Vaxjo-Smaland Airport for the area it serves in southern Sweden. It’s six miles from the centre of Vaxjo and getting from the airport to the city takes no more than fifteen minutes by hire car.
There’s a plethora of summer and winter sun flights from Vaxjo as well as year round flights from Ryanair, none unfortunately from the UK. Flights operate regularly from Stockholm’s Bromma and Arlanda airports and travellers from the UK can use them to access Vaxjo. There used to be a regular flight from Copenhagen but the opening of the Oresund Bridge shortened journey times and the route has been scrapped.

Vaxjo is the centre of the Swedish glass making industry and everywhere you turn you’ll be faced with examples of it. The cathedral, built in the 12th century is a great place to start, for many of the decorative pieces as well as the stained glass windows have been given to the cathedral over the centuries by the city’s glassmakers including some pieces that are priceless. To find out more, spend some time at the city’s Glass Museum where you’ll get to understand why glass making started there and was so successful.
