Lanseria Airport Guide

Lanseria Airport is Johannesburg’s secondary airport and serves the northwestern corner of the city around Randburg and Sandton. It only has flights from Cape Town and Durban and whilst O R Tambo Airport in Johannesburg also has routes from these airports, ticket prices to Lanseria are often more favourable.

Travellers from overseas have two options; either fly into O R Tambo and make your way through the city, or fly into Cape Town with BA or South African Airways and take a connecting flight.

Life in Sandton centres on Nelson Mandela Square and it’s there that you’ll find the huge bronze statue of the former president that is a favourite photo opportunity for tourists. Elsewhere around the square you’ll find ‘Theatre on the Square’ which hosts local and international performances of music and drama. On the opposite side is ‘Gallery on the Square’ where you’ll find exhibitions of local and international modern art.

Sandton is also famous for its shopping and is home to the largest shopping mall in South Africa as well as dozens of smaller shops and boutiques interspersed with cafes and restaurants.
