Ayers Rock Airport Guide

Ayers Rock Airport is only 20 minutes from the rock or Uluru as it is properly called. Much of the airport infrastructure was moved at the request of the native people as it encroached on their sacred ground but it’s still easy to get to the rock. Flights to Ayers Rock Airport come from Sydney, Alice Springs, Cairns and Perth and connections are available from Europe and the UK to Sydney and Perth.

Ayers Rock is a UNESCO World Heritage Site sacred to the aboriginal people and considered one of the wonders of the natural world. There are plenty of places to view the rock from, dotted around the landscape, many of them raised so you get a better view. After being closed on and off for a variety of reasons, it’s now possible to climb to the top of the rock although you need to set off early. No climbing is allowed after 10 am in the summer because of the heat. The climb is tricky in places and injuries are not uncommon so only attempt it if you are fit.
