Stavanger Airport Guide

Stavanger Airport serves the city of Stavanger and the surrounding towns and villages including Sola. It’s located in Sola, around seven miles from Stavanger, and whilst Stavanger is around fifteen minutes away by hire car, Sola is right on the airport’s doorstep and you’ll be unpacking your suitcases in no time at all. Stavanger Airport has many international flights because of its position close to the Norwegian North Sea oilfields. Daily flights from Heathrow, Gatwick, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Newcastle ply the route so getting there from the UK is quick and often cheap.

Sola is the perfect place to stay with its quiet charm and beautiful windswept beaches, ideal for wind and kite surfing. In summer, the sun is warm enough to allow sunbathing and perhaps a brisk chilly dip into the sea.
For more excitement and things to see, you’ll need to drive to Stavanger where you can immerse yourself in the history of oil exploration and the city’s other major industry; fish canning. There are museums to both, and whilst neither sound particularly appealing, they are actually quite fascinating with a number of hands-on exhibits.
