Eilat Airport Guide

Eilat Airport is sometimes known as J Hozman Airport and is near the isolated resort of Eilat in Southern Israel. It only takes domestic flights as international flights come into Ovda. If you specifically want to fly into Eilat Airport from abroad you’ll have to make a connection at Tel Aviv. In eighteen months’ time the airport will close and flights will transfer to a new international airport at Timna. From the airport it’s a short drive to the resort’s hotels and whilst buses and taxis are available, it’s a lot more convenient to pile your family and luggage into a hire car and head off straight away.

Eilat was the original Red Sea resort with travellers heading there for a dose of winter sun and to marvel at the fish on the coral reef offshore. Whilst pollution and tourism have taken a toll on the coral reef and sea life, it’s still a wonderful sight if you snorkel, scuba dive or take a glass bottom boat out.

Other things to do there include taking a 4 x 4 out into the Negev Desert to explore the many miles of trails that crisscross it. The Great Rift Valley passes through this part of Israel adding spectacularly to the experience.
