Hofn Airport (HFN) is located in the quaint fishing area in the south-eastern part of the island. While known as being a not so pretty town, its real asset are the beautiful views and surroundings. Although the airport is small and mainly used for domestic traffic, visitors can connect here from one of Iceland's larger airports. Adequate parking facilities are available on-site with disabled parking nearest to the building. Inside the airport you will find ample refreshment facilities such as cafés and bar areas. Basic amenities are provided, where you can use ATM's, public telephones, toilets and baby changing area if needed. All can be accessed before collecting you Car Hire Hofn Airport rental.
During your visit, you can use your Car Hire Hofn Airport rental vehicle to the Europe's biggest glacier, Vatnajokull which is only a few miles from Hofn. You can savour the beauty from the hire car if you wish as you can drive around part of the glacier. Should you like to visit Bjarnarnes Church, on a site which used to be a historical farm, it is famed for its unusual, geometric design. With a population of around 2000 people, you and your Car Hire Hofn Airport rental vehicle can be almost uninterrupted in your visit to Hofn. Should your vacation be towards the end of June, then you could catch the annual lobster festival. It is a time for the whole town to gather together in festive cheer.
Transport links are decent, as Route 1 or the Ring Road as it is better known, which circulates around the whole island and connects all towns which are habitable. The centre of Iceland is uninhabited and therefore is not linked to the coastal routes. The road itself is particularly helpful as most of Iceland's attractions can be seen or aren't too far from it. Remember when using one of our hire cars that the speed limit is 90kph on asphalt and 80kph on gravel sections.
