Monterey has one of the most dramatic coastlines in the US, perfect for exploring by car. Imagine packing up a delicious picnic, a bottle of Californian wine and heading out for the day, stopping at little coves to breathe in the crisp sea air. Well, to do that you’ll need our help. In summer, take one of our convertible cars from Monterey Regional Airport or in winter when the air is even more bracing, try a sturdier luxury car to make the trip and stop off at some of the charming inns en route.

Monterey Airport Guide

Monterey Regional Airport is located three miles southeast of Monterey itself and until recently was known as Monterey Peninsula Airport. The airport has a wide range of flights to many west coast destinations and Hawaii but none further afield. If you want to get to Monterey from eastern USA or from Europe and the UK, you’ll need to make a connection at Phoenix, LA, Denver or San Francisco.

Monterey is a fantastic place to enjoy a long weekend, something that many San Franciscans do. There’s a lot to see and do there apart from exploring the dramatic coastline as the city is reputed to have more historic buildings and landmarks than any other on the west coast apart from San Diego.

A popular place for tourists, especially families, is the Monterey Bay Aquarium which focuses on the aquatic life of the region, showing you what you’d encounter in the seas off the coast. To find out more about Monterey’s history, try the State Historic Park where many of the city’s finest buildings are to be found.
