Taupo Airport Guide

Taupo Airport is a small airport serving one of the most beautiful parts of New Zealand. Eagle Airways, a subsidiary of Air New Zealand operate three routes to Auckland, Wanganui and Wellington. Travellers from further afield can connect easily to Auckland or Wellington and take the Eagle flight from there. The airport is five miles south of Taupo itself, a journey of only around ten minutes after you’ve collected your hire car at Taupo Airport.

If you’re interested in the geology of the region, visit the Volcanic Activity Centre where all will be made clear. Follow that up with a walk through ‘The Craters of the Moon’, an easy trail through some dramatic volcanic landscapes. It’s not all volcanoes here though and a trip to Aratiatia Dam will regale you with spectacular natural scenery at this first hydro-electric dam on the Waikato River. Water is released daily at 10 am and you’ll see the famous Aratiatia Rapids spring to life. Huka Falls, one of New Zealand’s most popular attractions is found north of the town and is a very photogenic setting.
