Gisborne Airport Guide

Gisborne Airport is on the outskirts of the city of Gisborne and in minutes you’ll be at your hotel. The airport is domestic only with flights from Auckland and Wellington forming the main routes with smaller routes operated by Sun Air. Travellers from outside of New Zealand would be advised to fly to Auckland or Wellington first before making a connection.

Gisborne is a very popular holiday resort on the North Island and has one of the best climates in the country with nearly year round dry and warm weather. The beaches up and down the coast have fine golden sand and enough wind to create good surf and ideal conditions for windsurfing. A different form of surfing can be enjoyed at Rere where a stream flows over a rockslide allowing the brave or foolish to enjoy body boarding down the rock face.

The city is also at the centre of a burgeoning wine industry and on days away from the beach you can tour the vineyards, see the winemakers at work and taste the delicious products.
