The awards are known as the Oscars of the travel industry and they took place in the Caribbean islands of Turks and Caicos (another one of the destinations covered by Any Airport car hire) last night.
Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said: "2008 has seen Qatar Airways continue to go from strength to strength.
“The fact that the airline has been awarded such an impressive number of industry honours is testament to the fact that our efforts in providing a superior service both onboard and on the ground have been recognised.
"We are extremely proud of our business class product and feel that to be awarded this title for World's Leading Business Class demonstrates trust that the airline offers a superior business class product and quality service over and above its competition.”
The ‘World Leading Business Class’ honour has been added to the other achievements of the airline which has more than 60 Boeing and Airbus craft flying to more than 80 cities in Europe, Middle East, Africa, South Asia, Far East and North America. Despite this huge global reach Qatar Airways still has plans to expand.
Qatar Airways now has 10 international honours for the year and was voted the leading business class aircraft in the Middle East for the second year running.
Being compared with other travel companies, Qatar Airways came out on top for in-flight entertainment, and its first rate cabin crew were praised for excelling at customer service both in the air and on the ground.
It was the 15th annual World Trade awards Gala ceremony. The award seeks to recognise supreme excellence, value, innovation and quality in every aspect of customer service where travel is concerned.
Qatar Airways remains one of only six of the world’s airlines which can boast a Five Star ranking for service and excellence as decided by Skytrax, the independent aviation industry monitoring agency.
Elsewhere in the region the Dubai tourist authority has announced startling increase in the number of visitors to the country despite the global financial crisis.
Last year seven million tourists came to Dubai, up from 2.1 million in 2001. Furthermore this number is projected to more than double by 2015.
With all the developments going on in Dubai it is hardly surprising. The most awe-inspiring of these is Falconcity, a new monument which will pay homage to all of the world’s great buildings through time. There is to be the Dubai Eiffel tower, which will be more than 60 feet taller than the original, the Dubai Grand Pyramids, the largest of which will be 40 storeys and almost 500 feet high, the Dubai Tower of Pisa and the Dubai Taj Mahal all built on a piece of land which is shaped like a falcon – hence the name. So vast is this undertaking that 26,000 workers are entering the country every month to help complete it while the emirate was recently reported to have run out of cement.
Salem Al Moosa, CEO of Falconcity and head of Al Moosa Contracting, which is charged with bringing this creation to life, said that the project is a national icon which will honour mankind and put Dubai on a fast track to a prosperous future.
He said: “It is going to be a one-stop shop for people who want to look at the shapes and monuments of different civilizations, and it will educate our youngsters.”
