Geneva Airport (Geneva Cointrin International Airport) 5 km from the Geneva city centre. This airport runs along the French-Swiss border and can be accessed by car from both countries. Note: passengers going to, or arriving from France, do not have to pass through Swiss customs if they remain in the French sector of the airport.

Terminals

Geneva Airport Information


Geneva International Airport is situated in the town of Cointrin approx.4km northwest of the city centre of Geneva, Switzerland.  This international  airport has one terminal with one French and one Swiss sector.  The main Swiss sector of the airport is easily accessible from the N1 airport motorway.  If travelling from France take the A40 motorway to the border and then the N1.

If wishing to avoid the Swiss territory entirely then drive directly to the French sector via Feney-Voltaire, near Collonges, on the D-984.  From Ferney-Voltaire follow the signs for Geneva. When approaching the Swiss Customs, take the road on the right before the Customs to the airport for the French sector.

There are in excess of 5,000 parking spaces at the airport and all the car parks have direct access to the airport.  An economy car park is also available for long-term parking.  Taxis and cheap car hire is also available at the airport.

Geneva railway station is about 300m from the Departures and Arrivals floor.  All trains stop in the city centre at central Geneva-Cornavin.   Direct trains also operate to destinations throughout Switzerland and Europe.  There are bus stops outside of the Departures and Arrivals areas.  Unireso bus 10 operates a service to central Geneva and bus 28 to the UN.  Bus 23 connects the airport with Tours de Carouge and Fret.  From the French sector there are bus services to regional French towns and various international routes to destinations in Spain, Portugal and Eastern Europe.  The Aerocar service links the airport with Chambery and Grenoble.  The AeroSki Bus provides services to many of the French ski stations.

Facilities at the airport include banks, Bureau de Change, ATMs, a post office and wireless internet access.  A pharmacy, medical centre and a nursery can also be found in the terminal. Facilities are also available for business and disabled travellers  There is a good range of restaurants, bars and cafes together with an Internet café in the railway station.  A shopping mall adjoins the main airport reservations hall.  The mall hosts mini-exhibitions and events. Shopping facilities in the terminal include duty-free, fashion boutiques, jewellery, food and luxury items.

The NH Geneva Airport Hotel and the Môvenpick Hotel and Casino are a short walk from the airport.  On the other hand a shuttle bus departs for the hotel from outside Arrivals.  Various other hotels are situated nearby and many offer a free shuttle bus transfer to the airport.

Geneva is a lively and cosmopolitan city and is the seat of the European headquarters of the United Nations and many other organizations.  The city sits at the southwestern end of Switzerland’s largest lake, Lake Geneva, and it is surrounded by two mountain chains, the Alps and the Jura..   The city has a very pretty Old Town, fine museums and a brilliant public transport system.
