About the Airport

Sevilla Airport is Andalucías second largest airport, behind Malaga. Also known as San Pablo Airport it is situated 9kms east of Seville and is in between Seville and Rinconada. It handled over 4.5 million passengers in 2007 and 6500 tonnes of cargo. Primarily handling domestic flights, around 20% are international ones.

History

The airport dates from 1914, where the aerodrome was used for air shows and hosted the first flight between Europe and Africa. The designer Rafael Moneo, used the three traditional aspects of Seville culture, the mosque, the palace and orange trees. These are shown via the vaulted arch concourse, the enormous blue tiled concourse and in the airports ground are orange trees.

Infrastructure
Sevilla Airport lies adjacent to the A4 highway, although also known as E05 in the international E road network. The A4 and Sevilles ring road links to the capital Madrid. Most of Sevilles roads give great access to surrounding cities for example, Jerez is approximately one hours drive. Marbella is around three hours and Faro in Portugal is 2 and a half.
