George Airport Guide

The award winning George Airport is located just outside the town of George which is at the western end of the Garden Route that travels along the south coast of South Africa. It’s a moderately busy airport catering for tourists who come to enjoy the beauty of the Garden Route. Flights arrive from three South African airports; Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban and each of these has flights from the UK apart from Durban so getting to George isn’t too onerous.

George is the sixth oldest town in South Africa and has a wonderful feel to it. There is plenty of history in the town including the grand King Edward VII library and the infamous Slave Tree. You can find out more about these by visiting the George Museum. The town has a wonderful steam railway affectionately known as the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe which winds its way around the picturesque countryside. There are two golf courses of note; at Fancourt and at Ou Baai. There are also a lot of lovely beaches nearby including Herold’s Bay and Glentana.
