Car Hire Whangarei Airport

Whangarei is located in the so called ‘winterless north’ of New Zealand and is the northernmost city of the country. All around it is lush semi-tropical forest-clad mountains and idyllic beaches just crying out to be explored by those with a hire car. The best place to collect a hire car is from Whangarei Airport so you can have the convenience of using it to get to your accommodation instead of having to get on a cramped bus or an expensive taxi. You’ll also then have the use of it throughout your stay in Whangarei.

Whangarei Airport Guide

Whangarei Airport is located four miles southeast of Whangarei city, a journey that takes only fifteen minutes after you collect your hire car at the airport. It has two major routes and is the hub for two local minor routes. The major routes are operated by Eagle Airways to Auckland and Wellington. Travellers from outside New Zealand can easily get to Whangarei Airport by taking an Air New Zealand or BA flight to Auckland or Wellington.

The outdoor life takes precedence in Whangarei because of the wonderful climate. There are numerous perfect sandy beaches nearby with the best being Ocean Beach which is also excellent for surfing. There are also a number of trails and walks including the unique Kauri Walk which follows, at treetop level, a route through a semi-tropical rainforest.

The city itself has several interesting sights including New Zealand’s National (and only) Clock Museum where hundreds of examples are on display. Heritage Park is a great place to find out about old Whangarei and there are several buildings from the older times of the city as well as displays on typical New Zealand life. For great photographs of your stay around the city, visit the Whangarei Falls, reputedly New Zealand’s most picturesque.
